Dr. Najiya holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Elite School of Optometry, Chennai in affiliation with Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India. She secured her PhD in Neuroscience from the Erasmus University Rotterdam under an Indo-Dutch collaborative endeavour between the Vestibular & Ocular Motor Research group at the Department of Neuroscience, Erasmus Medical Centre, The Netherlands, and the Medical Research Foundation, Chennai, India. Her PhD research concentrated on extracting eye-tracking based biomarkers for the detection of visual system dysfunctions. Dr. Najiya has also earned the designation of the ‘Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO)’ under the scientific category. Following her PhD, she extended her proficiency through a postdoctoral fellowship with the same research group with a predominant focus on understanding the real-life functional consequences of visual impairment through visual-motor integration tasks. From the initial phase of her PhD Dr. Najiya has been dynamically involved in mentoring activities that bridged clinical practise and scientific research, facilitating students at various academic levels to shape well-rounded future professionals.

At present Dr. Najiya is a research fellow with the Eye N’ Brain research group examining the underlying mechanisms and usability of light-therapy in developing improved public health approaches for the prevention or progression control of myopia and on developing innovative tech-based means to decode activities linked to visual neuroscience. Aside from her professional pursuits, she is an avid reader, an amateur creative writer, and a fashion enthusiast.
