Postdoctoral Research Fellow
The Eye N’ Brain Research Group is interested in neurobiological interactions between the eye and the brain and in processes by which light can regulate ocular and neurological functioning and development. The goal of the group is to translate fundamental findings in visual neurosciences into screening and therapeutic clinical interventions.
Main duties and responsibilities: The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be involved in an innovative research project spanning over 3 years and investigating novel artificial intelligence-driven pupillometric and eye-tracking strategies to detect ocular and cerebral neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will benefit from a research lab equipped with state-of-the-art research equipment and will be part of a versatile research group from NUS and the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), including visual neuroscientists, biomedical engineers, ophthalmologists, and computer scientists. Appropriate mentoring and support will be provided by the senior members of the team, with the aim to produce high-impact publications and secure additional and individual research funding. The candidate will also have the opportunity to co-mentor Ph.D. Students.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Visual Sciences or Visual Neurosciences or Cognitive Neurosciences or any other related discipline
- A minimum of 3 years experience in visual sciences research, light, pupillometry, and/or gaze tracking (including years of master’s and/or Ph.D.)
- Good knowledge of the Anatomy and Physiology of the Visual System
- Knowledge in Data Processing, Analysis and Statistics
- Good data interpretation and presentation skills
- Excellent Scientific Writing skills (manuscripts and grant applications)
- Soft skills: Self-motivated, adaptable, and a team player
- Knowledge in Device Development, Coding, and Data Processing is a considerable plus

Research Assistant (Myopia Prevention and Control – Ophthalmology)
Myopia is reaching epidemic magnitudes in Asia, and especially in Singapore. The Eye N’ Brain Research Group are developing and testing novel light-based strategies for safe and passive myopia prevention and control. In this project, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in a school-based trial focused on evaluating a novel therapy for myopia prevention and control. Collaborating closely with scientists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, educators, child psychologists and public health experts, the candidate will contribute to the advancement of innovative approaches to myopia prevention and control in Singapore and the world.
The Research Assistant will be responsible to, and work closely with the Principal Investigator to provide research and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of projects in a timely manner.
Appointments will be made on a yearly contract basis renewable up to 3 years.
Qualifications:
- An Optometrist (preferred) / Bachelor’s Degree
- The ability to communicate well and work in a team
- Experience in a clinical research setting
- Experience in conducting ophthalmic examinations
- The ability to work independently and have an investigative nature
- Attention to details
- Good writing and communication skills
- Good event planning skills

Graduate Student (Scholarship Available)
The successful candidate will be able to pursue his graduate studies at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. His/her research project will focus on understanding the spectral sensitivity to light in the context of ocular growth and myopia.
A scholarship is available for Singaporean candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria for Graduate Studies at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
